My Bible Study Essentials
Hi, I’m so glad you are here! I am going to be sharing a few of the items I use daily when studying my bible. I call these my essentials, but let’s be honest, all you really need is a bible and your faith to absorb God’s Word. However, I do find it helpful to have some of these things to grow in study and make it fun. So let’s get into it!
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training for righteousness. 2 Timothy 2:18
Of course your bible is essential to studying God’s Word and what better way to do so than with a beautiful journaling bible! I love this one because it gives you pretty large margins on the sides to take notes. You can see that in the next few photos where I took pictures of the inside. This is the ESV version, which I enjoy for studying. I have linked a couple options of this bible, all journaling, cloth covered and just as beautiful!
Highlighters are a must have to me for studying my bible because I love highlighting important text or just any text that I deem important and want to look back on. I have tried numerous highlighters and these are my favorites – Mr Pen and the Mildliners are my top two favorite brands that cause no to little bleeding (depending on heavy hand). The Mildliners are neat due to being dual sided. One side is the highlighter and the opposite side is a marker with a finer tip, not to mention they come in tons of colors! The Mr Pen highlighters I bought from Amazon came with pens which I found to be a great deal (the pens are also no bleed), but I will also include a link for the highlighters only.

No bleed pens are an absolute must for bible note taking! I have tried so many brands and here are my favorite no bleed pens that I use daily. They are really great with thin bible pages and don’t smudge! These Mr Pen pens are different than the ones that come in the highlighter pack above. These have a super fine tip that allow me to write smaller in my bible and don’t bleed at all. However, the Micron pens are my top favorite. They also have a super fine tip, but are more pigmented than the Mr Pen. They can sometimes show a faint bleed on the back depending on how heavy your hand is, or if you double underline a verse, but it is super minimal and does not ruin the pages. In summary, I personally enjoy the Micron more, but you get a great value with the Mr Pen pack, considering you get 4 to a pack for only $7.99 and they perform great for bible notetaking.

Not essential to most, but I love to have a journal to write down my studies. I have always enjoyed journaling so I find it fun to take God’s Word and group like verses, messages, and topics together so I can later look back on. This is where I write my personal studies, that God led me to turning digital and sharing on Pinterest. I have a simple bullet journal, that I will link below in two styles. I personally like the bullet style that allows me to be creative with the space and doesn’t confine me to the lines. The journal I am using now is just a plain color that would be fun to customize with your favorite stickers!

Commentary! This is essential to me when studying my bible. It helps break down verse by verse with background, setting, and context. It’s extremely helpful when new to studying as well! I love using the free app – Enduring Word and Bible Ref. I also use the MacArthur commentary and love it as well!
I hope this short guide was helpful to any beginner in studying! It’s not so overwhelming and can be so much fun learning God and His Truths. I only started really diving into my bible about a year ago and now I can’t imagine a day without it!
Let me know in the comments what you find helpful to your bible study! I would love to hear.
But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and forever! Amen! 2 Peter 3:18
